Cachi

What to Visit in Salta

Located at 157 km from Salta City, by the Ruta Nacional 40, Cachi is a small pre-Hispanic town west to Valles Calchaquies Salteños, and not far away from the Nevado de Cachi (6,700 meters in height).

The town has ancient colonial-style constructions, adobe houses, white walls and cobbled streets, main visual characteristics of this place in Salta.

The Museo Antropologico is placed in house from 1920, attached to the Parish Church built in the XVIII century. There is an interesting walk to take around Pueblo Viejo (Old Town) to appreciate the characteristic architecture of Cachi.

From the town itself there are different excursions to archeological sites that we can take, like El Mariscal. Here we will find residential complexes and circular tombs that belong to the Cachis culture; Las Pailas, at 3,000 meters above the sea level, is a town full of thistles set at the foot of Nevado Cachi, and Puerta La Paya, just 10 km from Cachi.

During the 4-hour trip from Salta to Cachi, we can enjoy the picturesque scenery and places such as Quebrada de Escoipe, which links Valles de Lerma with Calcachi, and Piedra de Molino, with an impressive view to the valleys. Not far from there there’s the access to Parque Nacional Los Cardones and Valle Encantado, abundant in extraordinary scenery and contrasted colors.
