Ciudad de Salta

What to Visit in Salta

Also known as Salta La Linda, this is the capital of the province of the same name and a key point for the region’s tourism.

From here, we can book many tours and expeditions to Salta, Jujuy, and Tucuman provinces.

The city is placed in one of the most fertile valleys of the region, the Valle de Lerma. Dense jungles, desserts, hills and valleys form the diverse scenery of Salta.

The city stands out from the rest of Argentina thanks to the Hispanic constructions and architecture: white walls, narrow sidewalks, and cobbled streets. In here we will be surprised by the architecture, scenery, culture and people.

The Basilica Cathedral is one of the main symbols and also considered one the most stunning temples in Argentina. Inside we can contemplate a symmetric and magnificent decoration with golden ornaments and a superb altar.

In the pedestrian circuit we can also visit the old Iglesia de la Merced, decorated with a delicate gothic style, and Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, which has a famous wooden-carved portal made by indigenous people in 1762. There are also some houses turned into museums.

Located at 5 km from the city, Cerro San Bernardo is an excellent viewing point to observe the city and the Valle de Lerma. We can reach the top through a paved road or by cable railway from Parque San Martin.

Salta offers wide options and quality in lodging and gastronomy services. We cannot leave without trying typical food such as empanadas salteñas (Salta pies), humitas (flavored corn paste wrapped in corn leaves), locro (hearty thick stew), and tamales, along with the best selection of wines from Valles Calchaquies.

There is a lively nightlife to enjoy at the end of the day. Most of it is placed in the Train Station area, immersed in a safe and active atmosphere where we can share with locals and tourists in pubs, clubs, casinos, cafes or discos.
