Parque Nacional Los Cardones, at 100 km from Salta Capital City, is an enormous 65,620-hectare depression spreading between the Cachi and San Carlos Departments. The park’s main objective is to protect the wide variety of natural ecosystems of dry sierras and valleys placed between the 2,700 and 5,000 meters above the sea level.
The imposing 3-meter thistles are the predominant species, giving the name to the park. It is a real pleasure to walk across the park while we observe these majestic giants protecting the ancient secrets of the park. We can also see a wealthy variety of native fauna consisting of guanacos, grey and red foxes, big chinchillas, pumas, vicuñas (a llama relative), and mighty condors.
The park does not have all the services and commodities. It is recommended to carry water and sunscreen during the visit.
